Integrated Nursing Dashboard
(PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 2026)
CHIA has released the inaugural Integrated Nursing Dashboard, developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), to provide insights into the current state of the nursing workforce and to support the Commonwealth in meeting the health care needs of its residents.
State and publicly available federal data sources were used to outline key characteristics of the registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical nurse (LPN) workforce in Massachusetts.
As Massachusetts health and human services providers continue to experience unprecedented workforce challenges, this report is part of CHIA’s efforts to routinely monitor health care and human services workforce trends to inform state policies and programs.
This dashboard aims to provide policymakers with a critical fact base on the Massachusetts nursing workforce, which impacts access to care, quality of care, cost, and health outcomes.
Side-by-side comparisons of RNs and LPNs are available for measures of total number of employed nurses with breakdowns by demographic, employment status, sector distribution, recruitment and retention challenges, wage and salary trends, and key data points on the education pipeline and credentialing.
